Today we ran the Monument 10K as a family and had a fantastic time doing so. It is such a fun race. The race takes place in downtown Richmond, along Monument Avenue, a street that matches its name perfectly. It is a beautiful street filled with old, beautiful homes, old, beautiful trees and, of course, amazing monuments of famous people from Virgnia's rich history! Besides a beautiful setting, there are lots and lots (as in tens of thousands) of people racing, live bands and lots of cheering spectators. Some racers run. Some racers walk. And some racers dress up like crazy characters. It all makes for a great time. I ran it last year with Mark. My goal last year was to run the entire race without stopping. I did so, but was pretty miserable while doing so. (And sore for days!) This year we mostly walked the race. We only ran when the kids said, "Hey, let's run for a little while!" Let me tell you. Walking six miles is so much more enjoyable than running six miles. It was amazing how much quicker (though not really) those miles went. It really was a fun day. We are looking forward to doing it again!
