A Family Update (Taylor Makes Honor Roll, Yard Work, My Birthday and Pamplin Historical Park with Taylor)

Early last week, Taylor was honored for making the Honor Roll! Isn't she sweet?! We are so proud of her.

Later last week, we found a mother robin and her nest tucked up on top of one of our rain gutters. The kids have had a lot of fun watching her take care of her new babies.

I am not sure when this picture was taken, (or when my camera was stolen!,) other than some time during the past week, in between the time I took the picture of the robin and the pictures of our yard, but I found it while taking pictures off my camera today and had to include it. I love my cute, little guy, messy hair, face and all!

We spent some time during the weekend working on our yard, planting a few new bushes. One half of our backyard looks like this...

...Full and green. The other half of our backyard looks like this...

...A little less full and a little less green. So, we planted 5 new bushes to fill in the gaps, as you can see in the two pictures above. These bushes will grow to be 15 feet high and 10 feet wide. We are excited to watch them grow and fill in our backyard landscape.

Sometime lately, I fell in love with petunias! The petunias on our front porch have just been blossoming, doing so well, almost doubling in volume. I have loved seeing them every day so much that I bought more and planted them over the weekend as well, in a pot that I placed on our back deck. They make me smile.

I turned 32 on Sunday! I had a really nice birthday. Instead of cake, this year we had fruit pizza. It was really good. After just celebrating Taylor's birthday, I wasn't really in the mood for cake. This was my first attempt at making fruit pizza. I thought it turned out looking pretty good and it definitely made for a yummy birthday treat!

Yesterday, Taylor and I spent the day at Pamplin Historical Park and The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier, located here in Virginia, on the site of the April 2, 1865 "Breakthrough," the battle that ended the Petersburg Campaign and led to the evacuation of the Confederate capital at Richmond. It was wonderful. We both learned a lot and had a lot of fun!

Learning about life as a Civil War soldier...

Receiving arms training...

Touring Tudor Hall Plantation, which was used during the Civil War as the headquarters of Confederate General Samuel McGowan....

Touring the battlefield, Taylor's favorite part of the day...

Taylor modeling her new bonnet...

With her friend, India. Such sweet girls...

Well, that's what we've been up to lately!

lots of fun pictures!

that's exciting about the bird's nest! I was trying not to be jealous that your kids got to see that, and then we just saw that there is a dove on a nest outside our window! :D

Glad you are having so many good things happen!

I was showing these to Jonah just now. I said, "Who's that?" and he said, "Emma!" I told him it was his cousin Taylor. Then I showed him Spencer, and told him he would see them this summer.

Then I showed him all the other pictures, and talked about them. Then at the end. He said, "Why did Emma go there?" I said that no, that was Taylor. Then he asked, "Mommy! When did she turn into Taylor?" :)

I guess he'll be a little mixed up for a while.
