In between all of the birthday fun and new light fixtures, Spencer had a really rough weekend. Friday night, after putting him to bed at 7:30, he woke up crying at 9:00, with his right eye completely swollen shut. (The picture above was from earlier in the day. It is hard to tell how swollen his eyes were at that point, but they both looked pertty awful. His allergies have been really bad the past couple of weeks.) We decided to take him to the emergency room. The ER doctor prescribed him allergy eye drops and antibiotic eye drops. The following day, after Taylor's birthday party, Spencer started complaining about his chest hurting and then we noticed he was breathing really hard. We rushed to the ER. This time, the doctor administered a breathing treatment, which slowed his breathing, and put him on an asthma prescription. A few hours later, back at home, his breathing sped up again, and so we went back to the ER for the third time! He had another breathing treatment and was now prescribed a steroid! Poor guy. We (mostly me) spent the rest of the weekend watching him like a hawk, scared to death he would get short of breath again. (Asthma is very new to me and so scary.) Monday morning, I met with Spencer's doctor and my nerves were calmed. His doctor believes his system was overloaded with pollen on Friday and Saturday, which caused the swollen eyes and asthma attacks, and that this shouldn't be a recurring event. She said we may deal with it every spring, when pollen counts are very high, but not on a daily basis. Spencer has another appointment on Wednesday. The doctor wants to recheck his stats, because she wasn't happy with them on Monday. We will meet with her again in a week for asthma testing, just to make sure all is well. A scary weekend, but hopefully we are on the mend and all will be well.

I am so glad that Spencer is doing well, what a scary weekend. We are thinking about you guys and hope he feels better soon.
How scary! I'm glad he's doing better. So he doesn't actually have asthma, is that right?
Poor guy. I have two nieces that have asthma and it isn't fun. But, I'm glad he is doing better.
Right! He hasn't been diagnosed with asthma. His doctor says it is much too soon to diagnose him. We believe he just has severe (pollen) allergies, and that this weekend the pollen count was so high that he had two allergy/asthma attacks. We hope this is all it amounts to. I will hopefully find out more tomorrow morning.
Spencer you are still so cute even with puffy eyes
Oh, poor guy! I'm glad that he is feeling better. What a brave little guy!
