I Love My Library

Thomas Jefferson said, "I cannot live without books." I am in total accordance. I too cannot live without books. I also cannot live without the library. I am always checking out a million books, as well as magazines, Cd's and DVDs. I not only take advantage of the free check-outs. I also take advantage of our library's Story Hour. Every Thursday morning, Spencer and I head to our library at 10:30 a.m. for Story Hour. The librarians do a fantastic job. Most weeks, they read 3 or 4 books and sing a few songs. Sometimes they have puppets for the kids to play with or a flannel board story to share. It is really wonderful and we love it. A few weeks ago, we arrived and were surprised with a Dr. Seuss party. The librarian read 2 Dr. Seuss stories, after which the kids played fun games and had cake and punch. There was even a surprise visit from The Cat from The Cat in the Hat. Spencer came home with Dr. Seuss stickers and bookmarks, as well as a big smile. It was a lot of fun. Today, we were surprised with an Easter egg hunt. After 4 stories, and a couple songs, the children got to search the library for eggs. (It is a cloudy, foggy day today.) Each child was given a little bunny basket for the hunt. The Easter Bunny made an appearance as well. It was a lot of fun and Spencer came home with a lot of candy, and again, a big smile.

By the way, I couldn't get a picture of Spencer actually looking at me. I kept saying, "Look at me!" Finally, I tried, "Spencer. Where am I?" Hence, the pointing, yet still not looking at me.

I really should thank my mom for my love of libraries. As a child, she was always taking me and my siblings to the library. After each trip to the library, we always came home with the largest stack of books you have ever seen. We not only checked out books. We learned how to USE the library. As soon as we were old enough to write our own names, we got our very own library cards. My mom taught us how to use the card catalog and how to use the library for research. Every time I was assigned a school report, she would take me to the library to search for the proper books and resources I might need. I have so many childhood memories of being at the library with my mom and brothers. The library was like a second home. I think it still is for my mom. I've always loved the library. Everytime I move to a new city, the first thing I do is find the local library and get myself a library card. Just as my mom did, I want to pass a love of books on to my children. I think the brainwashing has already begun. Spencer loves curling up next to me on the couch as we tackle the stack of books we check out from the library each week. Taylor reads mostly by herself now, but she still loves to curl up next to me and listen to me read aloud. Taylor, of course, has her own libary card now, and I enjoy watching her as she happily checks out her own books. It is very sweet. Thanks Mom, for passing your love of books and knowledge on to me.

I completely agree with your comment. I love the library as well and luckily there is one near me. I am constantly at the library picking up and dropping off books and dvds. I also was able to go to the book sale twice when they held it. So fun! Lots of books for 50 cents each. Loved it! Thanks for your comments.

Oh, I miss taking my kids to story time at the Library. Provo had the coolest library ever. We do have a tiny little one here, so that's nice, better than none right? And they do have story time during the summer, I just want more. I know, I'm so demanding. Cute post.

There are two libraries in Federal Way. The one closest to us just closed for a year of remodeling. I am totally bummed as I love the library too. At least there is another one here that we can use - it's just not the same!
