A month or so ago, Spencer and I stopped for lunch at Chick-fil-A. Spencer excitedly ordered a chocolate milk, his favorite choice of drink when we eat out. As he was drinking it, I said, "Do you know what? We can buy chocolate milk at the grocery store." Spencer asked, with a surprised look on his face, "Really? The grocery store sells chocolate milk?" "Yep," I replied. "We can even buy stuff to make our own chocolate milk at home." Spencer was then immediately ready to leave. "Let's go mom! Let's go to the grocery store!"
Last Monday, for FHE, I made strawberry Jello. I don't think I'd ever actually made Jello before. I am not even sure why we had a box of it in our pantry. I am glad we did though, because I needed something quick for FHE, and even though it had expired over two years ago, I figured it wouldn't kill us. So, as I was making the Jello, Spencer walked into the kitchen and asked what I was making. When I replied, "Jello," he said, with the biggest eyes ever, "You know how to make Jello?" "Yep," I replied. "Did you get a recipe for it?" "There's one on this box." "Is it like the Jello Sister Hanson brought to our house for Thanksgiving?" "Yep." "I didn't know you could make Jello. That is awesome!" He then jumped up and down with joy over the simple knowledge of Jello in his future.
I think I really must deprive my children of some of the basic necessities of childhood. Never making them chocolate milk or Jello! What kind of mother am I? Well, at least I am learning to be a better one. We are now the proud owners of a bottle of chocolate syrup and I have vowed to make more Jello.

HA! That is hilarious! I don't think you're depriving them - just helping them appreciate the little things in life.
:) That's adorable. I love hearing stories about kids discovering things like that! How adorable!
Even though you had told me this I still laughed. He is so funny. I love talking to him on the phone I never know what he is going to say next. He reminds me of John.
How cute are they...in my unbiased opinion they are the best! I loved the chocolate milk story, I am sure Spencer keeps you in stitches, He always did when we were back there in Virginia.
Oh Jamie! That is so cute!!! I love it! You are the awesomest mom ever!!! :) I think Haylee might move in with you if she knew you had jello AND chocolate milk! :D
That is so cute! It was a great story!
I think it's great that those things haven't been "normal" because now he will enjoy them all the more!
Very cute story. Sometimes I wonder what my kids would actually LOVE, but have never experienced :)
