Shooting and Santa

Quite the title, huh?! So, are you intrigued? Here's the whole story . . .

This past Saturday morning, Mark took the Boy Scouts rifle shooting. Taylor and Spencer had really wanted to go too, so I agreed to take them out to the range and we met up with Mark for a little while. Taylor has gone shooting once before with Mark, but this was Spencer's first time. He was SO happy to shoot a "real" gun. He talked about it for the rest of the day. "I went shooting with Daddy and shot a REAL gun." He was so cute. I wish I had brought my camera, so I could have captured him shooting a "real" gun. Now, in the past, Mark has tried to convince me to try shooting. I've always refused. I am just not that fond of guns. Well, on Saturday, he finally convinced me, and guess what?! I did pretty well. The first two rounds of ten I shot, did not go very well. I only hit the target once. But, my final round of ten . . . I HIT THE TARGET ALL TEN TIMES! And, look at my target! Bullseye!!! It took me a little while to figure out how to line up the rifle with the target, but once I did, right down the middle! I asked Mark if I could keep my target. When he said yes, I told him it was going on the blog! Too funny, I know. Shooting and blogging? Not really a match, but I was so proud, it just had to go on the blog.

Now, on to Santa! Later that Saturday, we went with our friends, the Hanson's, to Bass Pro Shops. (It's the equivelant of Cabela's in Utah.) Bass Pro Shops had set up an entire "winter wonderland" for children with free Christmas activities and a free picture with Santa. Spencer was so sweet to watch as he waited to meet Santa. He was so excited to see him and to tell him what he wanted. When his turn came, he was a little hesitant, (his nerves kicked in,) but he did it, and when he was finished, he ran to me and excitedly said, "Mom! I didn't forget anything from my list!" It was so cute. He was just so happy with himself. Now, Taylor is a big 8 year old girl, and not all that fond of visiting Santa, (she's figured the whole "Santa thing" out,) but she did agree to pose for a quick picture and Santa was a good sport about it all, as you can see from her picture. (FYI - I had tried to get Taylor dressed up a little more stylishly that day, but she thought she would look silly dressed girly to go shooting and then to a big hunting/camping store. She felt a black t-shirt and tennis shoes were much more appropriate. She was probably right.)

So, that was our Saturday. The two stories don't really connect, but we did do it all in one day! It was definitely a day of shooting and Santa!

That's so fun! Josh and I went shooting for the first time together a couple weeks ago! It was so fun. It was my first time shooting clay pigeons! I was pretty good! But I am so impressed with your target! :) That's great. You should try pigeons next time! Now that's a challenge!!

Super cute pictures too! Santa was silly!

Grandpa says this just put him in the Christmas spirit, and being a part of your lives...when the miles separate us.
Love to you all, and I am so proud of your target. You are quite the sharp shooter. My daughter-in-law "Annie Oakley". Love from Mom W

Nice aim! Shooting is fun. We have The Gun Room down the street from us, but we haven't visited it yet. Maybe our next date night :) I like the pictures with "Peace-out Santa." And tell Taylor her hair looks really cute with her bangs grown out.
