Grandma and Danna Visit

My lack of blogging lately has been majorly due to the crazy-fun I've been having with my family. My mom flew out for 10 whole days, yay, and as a bonus, my sister and brother-in-law, Danna and Josh, drove up from South Carolina to visit as well, for 4 whole days, double yay. We had A LOT of fun and took A LOT of pictures. Here we go . . .

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA - Saturday, July 11th

After a morning t-ball game and lunch, we spent the rest of our day in Richmond, Virginia, the capitol city of Virginia. The weather was absolutely perfect! We started at the capitol building, where we took a guided tour from a man that was fascinating to listen to. We learned so much.

We then headed to Canal Street, where we walked around a large farmer's market and had dinner. The pizza parlor we ate at was more ghetto than you would believe, and the pizza was larger than Spencer, but it tasted good and no-one got food poisoning!

After dinner, we walked along the old canals of Richmond and took a canal cruise. Our captain, named Cotton, was dressed in period clothing and told us all about the history of the canals. It was a fun night. The kids really enjoyed it.

SEWING TIME - Monday, July 13th

Taylor was in the bad habit of constantly stealing my purse every chance she could get. I finally told her we needed to make her her own purse. We did just that while my mom was here. Actually, Taylor made it herself, with a little help from my mom. They used my purse as the pattern and went from there. Taylor did all of the pinning, sewing and ironing. I was very proud of her and I think she was proud of herself as well. She now carries her own purse where ever we go. Isn't it cute?

THE ZOO - Tuesday, July 14th

Since Taylor was in school during our last visit to the zoo, my mom wanted to take her while she was here. As always, everyone had a lot of fun!

GIRL DAY - Wednesday, July 15th

After gymnastics Wednesday morning, we headed to the mall for Taylor to get her ears pierced. She was very brave and looks so cute with her little diamond star studs. I haven't yet taken a picture of Taylor with her new earings, but I will soon, I promise. For now, here is a picture of her getting her first hole . . . I guess she does look a little nervouse, but she didn't seem nervous at all. She is growing up!

Later that day, my mom, Taylor and I had a "girls night out." We had so much fun. We got pedicures, ate at Panera and did a little shopping. Thanks Mom for treating us to such a wonderful night.

Washington DC - Friday, July 17th
Danna and Josh arrived Thursday evening. Early the next day, we headed to Washington DC. It was a long day, that included a lot of walking, a lot of riding the Metro, a little bit of rain, some scuffed and bloodied knees, and yes, a whole lot of fun. Here we go . . .

We are excited to start our day on the Metro!

Our first stop was the Washington National Cathedral. We had never been there before, so it was a treat. It was beautiful, to say the least.

These iron gates reminded me of "The Sound Music." Can't you just picture Maria and the Von trap family hiding in the abbey?

We then went to Ford's Theater. Ford's Theater is where President Lincoln was assisinated. It was surreal to sit in the theater and look up at the box he sat in when he was murdered.

After Ford's Theater, we went to the Smithsonian's Museum of American History, where we found a t-shirt from my high school! Go Bombers!

A rest for dinner was a must! I can't remember what was so funny, but I know we definitely had a good time.

I think Taylor's favorite part of the day was riding the Metro. She kept waiting for a full train, so she could stand up while riding. A full train never came, so she asked if she could ride standing up anyway. She's so cute.

In the early evening, we finally made it to the Lincoln Memorial. It was really pretty at night, something we had never experienced before.

Show those muscles Taylor!

Thanks Mom, Danna and Josh! We had a fantastic time with the three of you. We miss you terribly and can't wait to do it again!

Sara wanted to pierce Eva's ears about three months after she was born. We got out to the mall and she was getting ready to leave the car when she couldn't do it. She just wanted to have it be a special mother daughter experience when she was older, sort of a "right-of-passage" for Eva. I see from your pictures that Sara made the right decision.
