Hurricane Irene

Well, we survived our very first hurricane. It was not fun! In fact, I never, ever want to do it again! I know Hurricane Irene was only a category 1 hurricane, but it was strong enough to scare this West Coast girl. Thankfully, we came out safe and sound. We did lose one tree. Our biggest oak came down. We were sad to lose the tree, but we are extremely glad it fell in the opposite direction of our house. The entire situation could have been a lot worse.

Mark surveying the damage...

Taylor and Spencer enjoyed the whole experience a little too much! Oh, to be young and have no worries.

Our lifesaver! I am so glad we have a generator. It made an unpleasant 4 days without power just a tiny bit more pleasant.

A few of our neighbors...

So, it has now been four days since the hurricane, and clean up is still going on. There is a steady hum of chainsaws and generators outside, as people clean up their yards and some people continue to wait for power to be restored. Such a unique situation, it is hard to explain what the past five days have been like. Many traffic lights are still out. Many business are still closed. It is going to be a while before our entire community is back to normal, but I am glad the worst is behind us and we are now moving on. (Did I mention, we had an earthquake earlier last week as well?! A 5.8 earthquake! It has been a little crazy around here!)

It's not until you see Mark next to that tree that you can tell how huge it is! Firewood for the winter?

So thankful that tree went the other way!!! Glad you guys are ok and that you have power back. We only lost power for about 5 hours I cannot imagine days....the first item on our 'save up to buy' list is a generator! Miss you!!!

Wow, that is so scary! I'm glad the tree fell that way to! What a blessing. My kids would be all over that too. Glad you are all ok and things are getting back to "normal".

Gosh, I didn't realize you were so close to even have damage from the hurricane, so glad you are safe and only lost a tree:)
