DC with Friends

It has been two whole days since we went to DC! My legs are still sore, but totally worth the day we had though. We started early, last Saturday morning, caravaning to DC with our friends, the Hanson's. The drive went very smoothly, however, actually getting into DC did not. The 14th street bridge was closed, as was almost every other street we tried to take to get to our favorite DC parking spot. We quickly realized the "Race for the Cure" was going on, so we changed our plans and headed to Arlington National Cemetery to park instead. From there our walking began. We walked from the cemetery to the Korean War Memorial, and from there to the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam War Memorial. We then stopped for a quick sack-lunch, and were entertained by a hungry squirrel. After lunch, we walked to the World War II Memorial and the White House, and then through the Museum of American History, the National Archives, the Museum of Natural History, and finally, the Air and Space Museum! Phew! My legs ache just remembering all the walking we did. In between all of that walking, we saw a lot of wonderful things. (We also had an eventful dinner in between all of that. Our usual DC dinner spot, a spot that is totally devoid of crowds and super cheap, was sadly closed, forcing us to find an alternative. It ended up costing our family $27 for two sandwiches and three bags of chips! Oh well. Our stomachs were grateful for the food and our legs for the rest.) At the end of our day, after a whole lot of site-seeing and whole lot of fun, (and a whole lot of walking,) we thankfully caught a taxi back to Arlington . . . Totally worth the $15 fare. It was a great day-trip and we had so much fun getting to know our friends better! Thanks Hanson's for a fun day! (Hope you enjoyed your colossal donuts Sunday morning.)

A rest, sack-lunches and a hungry squirrel for entertainment!

The World War II Monument (Hanson children, oldest to youngest, Dorian, Hyrum, Tabitha and Athena)

We happened to be in DC on D-Day, so at the WWII Monument, WWII veterans were being honored. They were so sweet and kind, shaking our hands and telling us stories. This particular man was so happy to take a picture with all of our beautiful children. I am so grateful to these men for the service they have given our country.

Fun day! The WWII was my favorite. That's awesome that you got to talk with some of the vets. I don't think I realized that Kristi had 4 kids!

Wow! I am impressed your kids walked. Mine would be whining and complaining the whole way!! Boy those two are getting big! Taylor especially looks like she has grown up recently. Tell them to stop that!
